About Tapestry

Tapestry is a New York–based house of modern luxury, uniting the distinctive worlds of Coach, Kate Spade, and Stuart Weitzman. As an employer, the group offers the scale and sophistication of a global fashion leader while preserving the creative spirit and heritage of its iconic brands. Tapestry cultivates an inclusive, purpose-driven culture where design, craftsmanship, digital innovation, and commercial excellence intersect. Its teams are encouraged to think boldly, grow continuously, and contribute to a more responsible future for fashion, making Tapestry a compelling environment for talent seeking impact, creativity, and international opportunity.

Tapestry is seeking a Director of Accounting Strategy and Operations to advance strategic and operational priorities across its Controller organization, reporting to the SVP, Controller and Principal Accounting Officer. The role leads complex accounting matters and cross-functional initiatives spanning reporting, processes, systems, data, technology, and controls. Full-time role; base pay range is $150,000–$170,000.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Translate Controller and Assistant Controller priorities into plans, decisions, accountable ownership, and measurable outcomes across the Controller organization.
  • Lead strategic and operational accounting priorities from initial assessment and problem-solving through implementation, execution, and sustained adoption.
  • Provide accounting leadership and judgment on complex business transactions, operating matters, and emerging issues, partnering with subject matter experts as appropriate.
  • Lead or support cross-functional initiatives involving accounting, financial reporting, processes, systems, data, technology, or internal controls.
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting and other Controller teams on matters that cross functional boundaries or require broader coordination, while retaining accountability for assigned priorities.
  • Work with business, brand, regional, and functional leaders to understand operational issues, assess accounting and reporting implications, and develop practical solutions for near-term execution and long-term business needs.
  • Bring together stakeholders across functions, brands, and regions, build alignment across differing perspectives, and influence outcomes without direct reporting authority.
  • Support accounting considerations for new business models, transactions, systems, processes, and organizational changes.
  • Evaluate data, automation, analytics, and emerging technologies to strengthen decision-making and improve accounting outcomes.
  • Evaluate processes and ways of working and identify opportunities to simplify, strengthen, standardize, or improve execution without duplicating the ownership of established functional or control optimization teams.
  • Ensure accounting requirements and appropriate controls are considered as business processes, systems, and operating models evolve.
  • Anticipate and raise opportunities, risks, dependencies, and decisions with the Controller, Assistant Controller, and other senior leaders early enough to influence outcomes.
  • Translate complex accounting, business, and operational matters into clear implications, recommendations, and actions for senior leadership.
  • Make timely, well-reasoned decisions balancing accounting requirements, risk, business impact, consumer and brand considerations, and practical execution.
  • Build capability across the Controller organization through coaching, knowledge sharing, meaningful feedback, and talent development for broader enterprise needs.
  • Set clear expectations, reinforce accountability, and foster an inclusive environment where others can contribute, challenge, and grow.
  • Model courage, adaptability, curiosity, humility, self-awareness, and a focus on outcomes over activity.
  • Translate enterprise and Controller priorities into clear direction, decisive action, accountable ownership, and measurable progress.
  • Balance accounting requirements, business performance, consumer impact, and long-term brand considerations in everyday decisions.
  • Develop talent for the broader enterprise, provide meaningful feedback, and create accountability for outcomes.
  • Build relationships across functions, brands, and regions, bringing people together to improve decisions and outcomes.
  • Speak up, challenge constructively, prioritize what matters most, and make and communicate difficult decisions with clarity and conviction.
  • Lead with self-awareness, humility, adaptability, curiosity, and accountability, reinforcing a collaborative team culture.
  • Use data, automation, analytics, systems, and emerging technologies to advance accounting and business objectives.
  • Provide current, direct, complete, actionable positive and corrective feedback; clarify where people stand; and address people problems quickly and directly, taking negative action when necessary.
  • Generate numerous original ideas and make connections among previously unrelated concepts.
  • Meet internal and external customer expectations, gather firsthand customer information for improvements, act with customers in mind, and build trusting relationships.
  • Adapt effectively to change, make decisions without complete information, handle risk and uncertainty, and shift priorities comfortably.
  • Exceed goals, maintain strong performance, focus on results, and encourage others to deliver them.
  • Build rapport and constructive relationships with people across and outside the organization, use diplomacy and tact, and defuse high-tension situations.
  • Learn quickly when facing new problems, analyze successes and failures, experiment to find solutions, embrace unfamiliar tasks, and grasp underlying structures.
  • Anticipate future consequences and trends, apply broad knowledge and perspective, articulate credible possibilities, and develop competitive, breakthrough strategies and plans.
  • Provide challenging assignments and frequent development discussions, understand individuals’ career goals, create and execute development plans, encourage developmental moves, support those needing further development, and contribute to the organization’s development system.
  • Form effective teams, build morale and team spirit, share successes, foster open dialogue, support individual ownership, define success collectively, and create a sense of belonging.
