Must-know Diptyque Facts

All applicants ought to know these basics about Diptyque before applying or interviewing for any role.

Diptyque was founded in Paris in 1961 by painter Desmond Knox-Leet, interior designer Christiane Montadre-Gautrot and theatre designer Yves Coueslant, giving the house a distinctly multidisciplinary creative heritage.
The original boutique at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain initially sold printed fabrics and unusual decorative objects, rather than focusing exclusively on fragrance.
Diptyque introduced its first scented candles in 1963—Aubépine, Cannelle and Thé—establishing the home-fragrance expertise that remains central to its identity.
Its first personal fragrance, L’Eau, launched in 1968 with a composition inspired by a sixteenth-century potpourri recipe, illustrating the house’s unconventional approach to perfumery.
The signature oval labels and playfully arranged lettering make packaging an integral part of Diptyque’s storytelling, connecting its fragrances to the founders’ graphic and artistic sensibilities.
Diptyque has been owned by investment firm Manzanita Capital since 2005, placing it outside the major listed luxury conglomerates while supporting its international expansion.
