Privacy Policy

Cerulean is operated by John Philip Green, Singapore. We (“Cerulean”) are responsible for the personal information we hold about you, and this policy covers every Cerulean site. Questions and requests go to luxury@ceruleanjobs.com.

1. What We Collect

  • Your account. You sign in with Google, Apple, Facebook or LinkedIn, which gives us your name, email address and profile photo. We never see or hold a password.
  • Your résumé, if you upload one: the file, its text and the contact details in it, and the job preferences we infer from it.
  • Your preferences and activity: the brands, places and roles you choose; the jobs you view and click and the searches you make while signed in, which shape your recommendations, each click stored with the kind of page it came from (a search page, a list of jobs, a brand page, the Recommendations tab and so on); the jobs you apply to through us; and whether you open our emails or click the jobs in them.
  • What the Recommendations tab shows you. When you open it, we record which jobs it shows you, in what order, on which page, and on which Cerulean site. We delete this record automatically after 120 days, and it is erased with your account.
  • Your approximate location — country, region and city — inferred from your IP address.
  • The source of your visit — a search engine, an email, another website — stored with your account when you create it, and with each application and résumé upload.
  • How the sites are used, measured by us alone and with no identifier (see our Cookie Policy): pages viewed, searches made, and jobs shown and clicked, counted in totals that name no one, together with the words and places typed into a search, exactly as typed, all kept indefinitely; and server logs — IP address with its country and network, browser, page requested, the page you came from and the cookies your browser sends — which we delete after 90 days.

2. How We Use It

We use your personal information only for the purposes below.

  • To provide the service you signed up for: your account and job recommendations. Job alerts by email are sent only if you opt in, and every one has a one-click unsubscribe. To decide how often to write, we use whether you open the alerts or click the links in them, and your activity on your account: signing in, applying through us, visiting your account and changing your preferences. For example, we write once a week instead of daily when the alerts go unread, and daily again once you click in them again, sign in, apply through us or change your preferences. For this we record only dates, not your device, browser or IP address. You can choose how often we write at any time in your email preferences or from the link in every alert.
  • To match you with jobs, AI models running in our own cloud account read your résumé. It is never used to train them. The matching only chooses which jobs to show you: it makes no decision about you, and no employer sees it.
  • To keep Cerulean secure and to improve it, and to measure how it is used, unless you decline under Cookies at the foot of any page. We also use what the Recommendations tab shows you to judge and improve the recommendations, including by counting a click on a recommended job for less, so that recommendations do not simply feed on themselves.

If you are signed in and you decline our measurement, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we record that on your account. Until you turn measurement back on, we stop recording the jobs you view and click, the searches you make, and what the Recommendations tab shows you, on whichever device you sign in. The activity already recorded no longer shapes your recommendations. Your applications, your email opens and clicks, your résumé, your chosen preferences, and your approximate location still shape them.

3. Who Receives It

We do not sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising, and we do not give your résumé or profile to employers. Applying takes you to the employer’s own site, which receives nothing from us.

It is processed on our behalf by Amazon Web Services (hosting, email, AI), MongoDB (database) and Kinde (sign-in). We disclose it to authorities only where the law requires it.

4. Where It Goes

We are based in Singapore, and your account and résumé are stored there, outside the United States. Our providers also process personal information in other countries, chiefly the United States and the European Union. There it is subject to local law and may be accessible to those countries’ courts and authorities. Our contracts require each provider to protect it as this policy does.

5. How Long We Keep It

For as long as your account is open. You can delete your résumé from your account at any time. To close your account and erase your personal information, write to us and we will do so within 30 days.

6. Your Rights

You can ask for a copy of your personal information, and have it corrected or deleted, wherever in the United States you live, and we will not treat you any differently for asking. Write to luxury@ceruleanjobs.com and we will answer within 45 days. If we refuse a request, write again and we will review it. You may also complain to your state attorney general or, in California, to the California Privacy Protection Agency.

7. Changes

We will email account holders before any important change to this policy takes effect.
